Spotlight on the Newman Centre

The Newman Centre of Montreal benefits from the fund as it falls into Pillar II of supporting youth ministry. They address the religious, education and social needs of undergraduate and graduate Catholic students.

Inspired by the vision of Cardinal Newman, the Centre invites students to participate in spiritual and intellectual renaissance of the Catholic faith within modern culture.

Through leadership development, The Newman Centre equips young people for the pursuit of lay vocation. In recent years, the Centre has played a very constructive role in public policy debates about a key dimension of the lay vocation — marriage. It also provides practical support to young families through its summer retreat centre.

Faculty, staff, and the general public are also encouraged to participate and join in the Newman activities. They host various events and activities; from daily Soup and Bagel lunches during the week to coffeehouses each semester, as well as YouCat discussions every Friday to Daily Mass. The Centre has been a place for Catholic youths to gather in a welcoming community, where they can eat together, play together, study together, and pray together.
